Crescent Theatre

A neighborhood house which opened in 1925 and was operated by Famous Players. Movies consisted of sub run double features, news of the day, cartoons, travelogues, and Saturday kids matinees. A popular attraction was ‘dish night’…

“be sure and keep your ticket stub in case your number is called”.

The Crescent even predated concession stands. It’s only nod to refreshments was a candy vending machine in the lobby. It was an early casualty (1955) in closings of neighborhood theaters.

Long before it closed, there were design sketches visible in the office next to the lobby for proposed renovations. A new marquee and neon vertical, as well as a revamped lobby and ticket area was shown in the sketches. I have no idea if other interior updating was in the works, but obviously none of it was ever carried out.

The theater was acquired by the phone company and demolished to make way for extensions of their buildings, which now occupies most of that city block.
