Paragon Theatre, Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY

This small, late-run “nabe” situated in eastern Brooklyn near Rockaway Avenue was opened in 1914 as the Leroy Theatre. In 1926 it was renamed Ritz Theatre. It was renamed Paragon Theatre in 1929. In 1932, the Paragon Theatre was reported to have new owners who intended to re-name it the Roma Theatre as a showcase for Italian movies, but I don’t think that ever happened. The Paragon Theatre changed ownership many times during the Depression and finally closed in 1934.

It was converted into stores and light manufacturing use. It now serves as home for the New Hope Spiritual Mission.

The Paragon Theatre opened in 1917 as the LeRoy Theatre seating 600. Around 1924 the LeRoy Theatre became known as the Ritz Theatre. By 1930 the name was changed to the Paragon Theatre. I show no listing for the Paragon Theatre after 1935.

Very Good. I will look into this further. Perhaps the Paragon Theatre had a name prior to the LeRoy Theatre.

As far as I know that building IS the old Paragon Theater. Do you have any interior photos of it?
