The Whittier Theater in Detroit opened in May 1915 as the Knickerbocker Theater. In 1932 the name was changed to the Whittier Theater. This theater was closed by Community Theatres chain in 1957.

The November 21, 1914, issue of The Moving Picture World said that the Knickerbocker Theatre, then under construction by the Ingersoll-Gaukler Company, was expected to open by May, 1915.
