The Novelty Theatre Theatre was opened by 1926. By 1931 it had been wired for sound and renamed Texas Theatre. It was still open in 1957. Movies are long gone from the Texas Theatre in Sealy. This old single screen theatre has been gutted and is now the home of Annies Lei and Garden Café. They have done a beautiful job on restoring the front of the theatre. The flat marquee has been restored with lights all around and working again. The neon Texas vertical has been relit and working again. The front entrance has been restored to its original beauty.

The building is for sale for $395,000. Here is a photo from loopnet:

Here is a Feb 2009 shot of the interior, looking at the doors that separated the lobby from the seating area. Lady at the shop said this is original. Beyond the doors, is the cafe.

Here is a shot of the apartment at the top floor, which used to house the balcony for the theatre. Shop owner said the balcony was originally segregated. Photo taken from the courtyard for the cafe, which is where the seats used to be. The theatre partially burned down long ago.

Here’s another interior shot, I would assume the slanted wall is caused by the stairs leading to the balcony originally.

Exterior has changed slightly, so I’ll post a Feb 2009 pic…
