Tucked away in the western mountains of North Carolina is the small town of Highlands. Along Main Street is located the cozy single floor, 412-seat single screen, Galax Theatre. It was opened on May 19, 1950.
The entrance is in a small two-story building with offices on the second floor. There is a fenced in porch along the second floor in front of the offices looking down on Main Street. There are shops on each side of the hallway that leads to the theatre. The theatre exudes a small town atmosphere.
Closed by the summer of 2013, it now houses retail.

Yes, Highlands exudes a small town atmosphere and is a special NC community with (I might add) many Florida tags especially in the summer months!

The Galax Theatre originally housed 412 red and green upholstered seats and opened its doors by O.F. Summer on May 19, 1950.
