I remember “Homebodies”. The TV commercials played off the “filmed in Cincinnati” angle. One of my teachers saw “Homebodies” and said it was just her and her daughter in the theatre. I guess it wasn’t Star Wars :)
Opened as a Roy S. White theater May 23, 1973 and closed as a Loew’s cinema on Jan. 6, 1991.

Correction: Skywalk Cinemas was on Race Street, not Vine Street.
I worked there as a projectionist right out of High School. The skywalk went through that block to Vine Street but Elder Beerman Department Store was on Vine, not this theater.
The sneak preview mentioned was for the film The Abdication. Most likely that was their only pairing as Finch died two years later.

The October 15, 1973, Boxoffice article about the Skywalk Cinemas, mentioned in an earlier comment, can now be seen online here. There was also a photo of the theater on the cover of that issue’s Modern Theatre section.
Designed by the Cincinnati architectural firm of Gartner, Burdick, Bauer & Nilsen, the Skywalk Cinemas 1 & 2 was originally operated by Mid-States Theatres. The article failed to report the seating capacity, or to give the opening date.
I recall the film Homebodies and I saw it at this theater. You can get VHS copies of it on EBay. I remember it being a let down with the exception of the location shots of Cincinnati, particularly downtown and Eden Park.
“HOMEBODIES” was a movie,rated PG.looking at the ad in the CINY paper. I can’t remember it either.

On AUGUST 9 1974 the SKYWALK 1 and 2 cinemas was playing “THE STING” and “THE GREAT GATSBY” both starring Robert Redford.and rated Pg. There was a sneak preview that night in the theatre that played “THE STING” starring Liv Ullman and Peter Finch. These theatres were MID STATE CINEMAS. It amazes me how many Cincinnati theatre ARE NOT LISTED ON CT. isn’t there anyone from Ohio that can get these theatres on.
I found an article in the October 15, 1972 issue of Box Office magazine heralding the opening of the Skywalk Cinema. It includes an architectural drawing and interior and exterior photos. If anyone is interested in seeing this article drop me a line.
I miss even more the Roy Rogers Restaurant that was located across from the Skywalk Theater on the Skywalk,wouldn’t a Double R Bar Burger go great right now?
It was the Place, not the Palace. Speaking of the Skywalk, it is still a haven for crime since all the great theatres and restaurants closed down. The thugs “own” the skywalk and most of the downtown blocks. People stay away from downtown Cincinnati in droves due to the crime.
I’m sorry, the theatre I was referring to as a neighbor of the Skywalk was the Place, not the Palace. Could a moderator correct this for me?
