This single screen was located just north of the North Town Mall. It opened in 1995. A multiplex opened shortly after the Gateway opened and the theatre closed in 1999.

the gateway theater was NOT! a movie theater,it was a live music theater,before it was a live music theater it was the howard johnson convention center right behind the howard johnson hotel,it was converted to a live music theater to try to cash in on the live music theaters like the ones in branson,mo.witch is about 35 miles from springfield,mo.when the hotel was sold the gateway theater was converted back to a convention center,the only movie theaters that were in the area were the north town cinema 3 theaters next door at the north town mall,they closed sometime in the late 1990’s.
