The Theatre Historical Society on-line archive has the MGM Theatre Report for the Powers; it’s Card # 353. Address is Sweden St. There is an exterior photo dated June 15, 1946 which was pasted over the original photo dated April 1941. Condition is Fair. The report says the Powers opened about 1917, was showing MGM films and had 624 seats. A competing theater was the Rudy. The 1940 population was 8,200.

Here is a vintage photo of the Powers Theatre. The caption says that it “… started as the Gem Opera House in the 1920s….” but an item in [em]The Moving Picture World[em] of July 15, 1916, indicates that the house was built to show movies: “CARIBOU, ME.â€"Astte & Page has the contract to erect a two-story moving picture theatre, 45 by 96 feet, for P. J. Powers, to cost $10,000.”

The Powers Theatre building appears to be for sale. It currently houses a barber, tattoo shop, and food bank, among other tenants.

There are recent photographs of the building here: http://mainehomes.com/node/13177
