Bijou Dream Theatre, St. Louis, 1909

Operating since September 6, 1908, the Bijou Dream Theatre was one of the very early downtown nickelodeons in St. Louis. On January 29, 1911 it became the Bijou Casino Theatre. In August 1911 it closed and became the Bijou Dance Academy.

Long gone and the St. Louis Center Mall (now renamed One City Center) sits where this theatre once sat.

In 1909, the theater at 608 Washington Avenue was called the Bijou Dream. Trade Journal The Nickelodeon gave its seating capacity as 700. The house was at that time equipped to show Cameraphone sound films as well as regular silent movies.

September 6, 1908 opening ad as the Bijou Dream in photos. The nearby Casino Theatre on Olive and 6th lost its lease. The two theaters became one as the Bijou-Casino on January 29, 1911. That combo lasted seven months with the venue becoming the Bijou Dance Academy.

Technically, One City Center is what sits there presently (formerly St. Louis Centre Mall)
