Cool. At one time some of the Queens Theaters were listed either by community or under Queens. Eventually it was decided that all would be by community since that is the only boro where community identities are maintained. Just watch the TV news: the Belmont Section of the Bronx, etc.. If one knows the name of the theater or the village name it can be accessed. I don’t think there is too much need to do a generic search as “Queens”.

Why isn’t there also a QUEENS after New York, not only for this theatre, but for all theatres listed for that borough, which is one of the five that constitute New York City. Anyone not familiar with NYC geography would be stumped as to where Ozone Park was located in that very large state of New York.

I saw an ad for the a “Ozone theater” on 101st Avenue near 95th Street. I will post the info when I find it. I remember an elderly man when I use to take him the bank on 95 Street and 101 Avenue that there was a theater a round there. The question I have could that be the Ace theater or were there two theater across the street from each other? One being the Ozone and the other one the Ace.

The New Ozone was affectionately known as the “Dump” to old time residents to distinguish it from the “Park” which was more expensive and had newer releases.

The church is located in a boxy, nondescript white-painted brick building. The front appear to have been modified, with evidence of a bricked-up entrance.

I was intrigued by the reference to a theater at “4148 101st Street,” although that location would be far from this one, located on the corner of 135th Street.

I don’t know how to locate that site, as the street numbering system must have changed since it closed. Street addresses are numbered according to the intersecting avenues, (i.e. 103-xx) and there’s no 41st avenue in Ozone Park or surrounding areas.

I’ve been chagrined to see the history of so many theaters on Rockaway Blvd in South Ozone Park. First “The Park”, then “The Farrell” and now “The New Ozone”. I’ve said before on other theater sites that I found it hard to believe that this area could support any theaters since it was not a big commerical street. Certainly not on a par with Liberty Avenue which had a subway and consequently three relatively large theaters: The Crossbay, The Casino and The Lefferts.

But I guess, way back when, in the era before television the only nice night out probably revolved around a theater; especially if you were in search of air conditioning. Sitting in front of a radio must have gotten old real fast!

Nevertheless, none of these theaters survived into the 60’s and even the Liberty Avenue theaters (while better locate) also didn’t make it to the new century.

So the “New Ozone” above is now a church, but Warren references “The Ozone Park” on 101st St. This theater does not have it’s own listing. Does anyone have any additional info?
