Auditorium #8 during preshow

Built in 1998 by General Cinema in a downtown shopping mall, it opened November 6, 1998. The lobby and entry have a unique rustic look with raw timber, beamed ceilings and darker colors. When it opened it had a cafe and bar, although AMC may have eliminated this when they took over as they did at the Yorktown 16 in Illinois.

When it comes to multi-plex theatres, this one is a winner! They do everything right. Nice warm ambiance, each screen features excellent digital sound, and stadium seating which is a first for a downtown Seattle movie theatre. 2 of the 11 screens are quite large, I believe around 60 feet wide. And projectionists that actually care about how the film looks on the screen. A must see!

Is it just me or does this theatre seem to be getting lousy bookings these days compared with Regal’s Meridian down the street.

Added several photos, including shots of the exterior, box office as well as auditorium #8, the largest in the complex.

Watching the all star game on MLB Network from Seattle from 2001, the theater once hosted the world premiere of the box office flop Summer Catch the weekend before the All Star Game and the stars and musicians from the movie were in attendance.

A nice contrast to Regal’s dismal downtown Meridian 16, with its barely sloped floors and cramped seating. Better popcorn, too, and I’m a popcornholic. :-)
