The Hoffman Theatre was built as a vaudeville theatre in 1920. It was located on Euclid Avenue, west of East 105th Street. It was one of five theatres in the Euclid and East 105 Street area, the others being Loew’s Park Theatre, Keith’s 105th Street Theatre, the University Theatre and the Alhambra Theatre. By 1927 it was re-named Circle Theatre after Loew’s took over.
The Circle Theatre had a balcony, and seating totalled 1,975. There was a full stage, with dressing rooms. In the late-1950s, the Circle Theatre received some notoriety for being the first Cleveland venue to host a live stage show featuring Elvis Presley.
In its final years, the theatre ran mostly movies, but also staged a live country/western show on Saturday nights.

The Park would be approximately across Euclid ave from the Circle.
Keiths and University were back behind the Circle shot, on the Southeast quadrant.
The Keiths was closest to E105th st and the University was further east.
If you divide the area into quadrants with Eucid and E105th being the center, the Keiths and University were on the Southeast quadrant, the Alhambra and Park on the Northwest quadrant, and the Circle on the Southwest quadrant.

What are the exact addresses of the Circle, Park, and Alhambra theatres? I have the Keith’s 105th as 10502, the University as 10606, and the Park as either 10209 or 10409. Also, does anyone know the name of a little theatre on Superior at about East 84th? I believe it was closed around the early 50’s.
The Superior Theatre was at 8421 Superior. I believe the building is still there as a “church.” The Circle was 10210, the Park 10209, the Alhambra 10403 (all Euclid Ave).
All the rest are gone. Cleveland Clinic rules the area.
Film Daily Yearbook;1950 edition gives the address of the Circle Theatre as 10210 Euclid Avenue with a seating capacity of 1,975.
The Alhambra Theatre is given as 10403 Euclid Avenue with a seating capacity of 1,200.
The “Superior” opened in 1930 and closed in 1950. I don’t know the seating capacity, but it appears rather small.
The Superior Theatre is listed with a capacity of 500 seats in 1950
The current occupant of the old Superior Theatre building is the “True Missionary Baptist Church”.

According to this page, which has pictures of the Circle (the clearest from 1946), this theater opened in 1920 as the Hoffman and was renamed the Circle by 1927 when Loew’s took it over and wired it for sound. Loew’s apparently had sold it by 1935, probably preferring to focus on its more lavish Park Theatre on the other side of Eiclid. http://www.scottymoore.net/circletheater.html
