AMC Crestwood Plaza 10

The Crestwood Plaza 10 originally opened with five screens on March 21, 1986. Five more were added when the mall went through a remodel. The back side of the Dillards Department Store (Stix, Baer & Fuller) was closed off and the new theaters were added there.

The entrance to the theaters are very convenient as they are located in the back of the mall and there is an entrance right there. You walk up the stairway to the lobby which is done in earth tones and iridescent lighting but very impressive. The new auditoriums have stadium seating but the older ones have staggered rows so the site lines are still great. All of the auditoriums have stereo sound. This is a very comfortable theatre all around. A big plus for AMC.

Closed on May 17, 2012, the mall was partly demolished in May 2016. Demolition was completed in September 2019.

@oceantracks: I believe you might be thinking of the South County Cinema that was in South County Center. That theater WAS run by General Cinema from its opening until it was closed and torn down. Here’s that theater’s page on this site: South County Cinema

…and then there was the Sunset Hills I & II which were operated by General Cinema. A bit further west on Watson Road (Highway 66).

@kyle Muldrow

No, Kyle I am aware of the other two theaters you mention. But there was a theater kind of overlooking Crestwood Plaza in 1965, and that’s where I saw The Beatles film. It might not have been a GC though. Only way to figure thisk out would be if there was microfilm at the library with movie listings for Summer 65 I suppose…. Could it have been an AMC?

An article in the 12/17/1985 St Louis Post-Dispatch detailed Mid-America’s sale first to RKO then to AMC shortly thereafter. This was one of Mid-America’s theatres that was under construction, ultimately to open as an AMC Theatre.
