News About This Theater
- Aug 24, 2004 — Tower Theater For Sale
This theater became home to a community group calling themselves the ‘Post Opry’. The marquee and sign have an attractive red and yellow pattern. The marquee is unfortunately missing most of its neon. The yellow brick facade is boxy but interesting with a stepped design and orange brick accents.
It was taken over by a church in late-2009, and in late-2010, it was announced that movies will return, but they had stopped by 2016.

Good for them. This place cant make it as a theater. Not enough people there. To God the glory. I wish them a blessed run.
Boxoffice of September 25, 1948, said that construction had begun on a new theater at Post, Texas. The project was expected to take eight months to complete. However, I haven’t found the Tower mentioned by name in Boxoffice before 1959, and a building in the midcentury modern style of the Tower might have been built at any time during that decade. Still, the town’s web site says that the other movie theater in Post, the Garza, was closed in 1955, so the Tower was most likely open by then.
Post is mentioned infrequently in Boxoffice, so it’s unlikely I’ll be able to dig up any more about the town’s theaters from that source.
The Tower Theatre is having a GRAND OPENING! Showing our first movie!
If you have information on the history of this great theatre I would appreciate all the help I can get. We want to share this treasure with everyone!
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi, Don! Jeff in Texas here. I see you’ve already got the Tower and the Garza posted! Good man! I’ve got one in Snyder and one in 2 in Sweetwater that I am going to check next. See ya! Jeff
Is this theatre still open? (Aug. 2016)
The last post on their Facebook was in January announcing the opening of the Coffee House in the lobby. Not showing movies.
I drove thru in the summer of 2021 and the film posters are displaying coffee products so it might still be a coffee shop in the lobby. It was not open when I passed through. New pics have been added to the pics tab.
