Cecil and Joyce Sutherland opened the Catalina Drive-In on November 18, 1964, featuring a cream and beige concession lobby, and a pale green Gyproc projection room. It originally housed two 16mm Hortsen projectors when it opened, but 35mm projection was installed in its later years. It was renamed the Houston Drive-In in 1976, and closed after the 1980 season.
