The town’s first movie house was housed in Fred Dietz’s old retail store next to the Dakota Hotel. The theatre was set to open as the Imperial Theatre but was changed to the Empire Theatre at its April 10, 1915 launch. Four reels of films and Edwin H. Stein performing songs between the four film shorts. It closed for the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and reopened. Locals contend that the theatre moved to the Turner Hall and under new operators became the Rex Theatre while the Dietz Block became a meat market. The Dietz building was moved in 1947 to the alley and, later, razed.
