The Palmer Theatre was located about one mile from Palmer Park in New Orleans. The silent-era movie house was built in 1923. It appears to have opened September 1, 1923 with Jack Holt in “Nobody’s Money”. The venue ran into trouble and was offered for lease or sale just months later - the lease could be taken on for $160 a month.

New operators took it on and, in 1925, it had another closing. It reopened with a new organ and many improvements on August 30, 1925 with Morton Sills in “As a Man Desires” purportedly under United Theatres Circuit. The Palmer Theatre was ultimately not wired for sound closing in 1928.

After being used for sporadic community events, the theatre space was removed in favor of a new fruit stand and later a long-running bar which - under various names - lasted from 1938 to 1973. The building looks to have been demolished - perhaps in 1974 - likely as part of the US 190 highway project.
