The Kum-C Theatre opened its doors on November 20, 1946 with Rita Hayworth in “Tonight And Every Night” (unknown if extras added). It was completely destroyed by a morning fire on December 17, 1951, costing an estimate $40,000 in destruction. The fire was so devastating that a group of spectators huddled in fear to watch the flames in a middle of a near 7°F weather, or -14°C.
The fire also caused the cancellation of the upcoming showings of Betty Hutton’s “Red, Hot, and Blue” which is most likely displayed on the marquee and the lobby before the fire ripped the Kum-C Theatre apart.
