Yale Theatre

This theatre appears on the 1914 map. It was located in the Brunston building, a small two story brick commercial building constructed in 1903. The theatre is listed in the 1914-15 AMPD, but appears to have closed by 1926, although it’s possible it changed it’s name. It was certainly closed by 1935, when the map shows the building used as a store.

Although the block has been rather roughly handled, the building is in good shape today. It has been a hair salon since at least 2007.

A book about Wichita published in 1910 lists eight theaters, including the Yale, 504 E. Douglas Avenue, featuring vaudeville and moving pictures. The house had 350 seats. The Yale is also mentioned in the October, 1911 issue of Motography and in the August 21, 1915 issue ofMoving Picture World.
