The Regal Cinema is located in Birmingham Gardens, a district to the west of Newcastle, NSW. It was built and opened as the Pictures in the late-1950’s, operated by a Mr. Avard. It is a wooden building containing 300-seats and later renamed Regal Cinema. It was closed in 2006 due to concerns that the building was unsafe. It reopened eight years later in 2014 with the help of a team of volunteers.
It was closed in February 2020 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. In February 2026 it was announced that renovations and restoration was about to begin, with a proposed reopening in July 2026.
