The Alco Theatre’s life in the La Ronde Center was a bit of a cinematic roller coaster. It kicked off with a grand premiere on January 12, 1972, serenading the Sun City crowd with the musical “Song of Norway”.

While it didn’t exactly set the box office on fire—struggling to find its footing as a financial hit—it found a second life as a beloved hub for local community gatherings. Over the years, the venue changed hands between several big names, including Showplace, Blair, and United Artists.

Ultimately, the curtain fell for the final time on February 4, 1990, marking the end of an eighteen-year run that was less about blockbuster profits and more about bringing the neighborhood together.
