Roxy Theatre

The Benitez Theatre Circuit was located just ten miles from from Elsa in Welsaco. Miguel Benitez opened the Roxy Theatre here in May of 1947. The town of Elsa had experienced a boom, with its population growing 216% between its 1940 incorporation and 1950.

Benitez would add the Sky-Vue Drive-In just south of town opening in February of 1949. An English-language, new-build Tropic Theatre was built a year later. The tiny town had no shortage of entertainment options with the Roxy Theatre, the Tropic Theatre, the Sky-Vue Drive-In and two other venues listed in the trade press: the Balli Theatre and the Paris Theatre.
