Please update, went to 12 screens on December 26, 1986, 13 screens on Ocotber 16, 1987 (one of the 512 split) and 15 on December 1, 1989

If you could get a hold of the Movie Timetable from Newsday for that date you could probably figure that out. Also, those were the days when theaters advertised so that might be evident in a Newssday ad.
Can anyone confirm, please, the screen count of the Commack Multiplex Cinemas on Christmas Day 1986 (preferably via newspaper research rather than memory)?
nearly 35 years ago this year this theater opened.

Coate, I was a projectionist for NA in NJ at the Amboys Multiplex for 21 years. If they followed the pattern of splits/additions like they did at ours, then it was probably every two years. Ours opened as a 6 in 79. 2 were added in 81. 2 more in 83. 2 more in 85, and 2 were split in 87 to get us to 14.
(from the overview) “It opened on October 28, 1983 with ten screens. Four screens with 512 seats and the other six with 364 seats. The theatre then added two 226 seat houses, split one of the 512-seaters in half, then added two 250 seaters for the current total of fifteen.”
Does anyone know the years in which the many screen/auditorium additions were made?
Please see my comment on the Mayfair site of 6/30/13. Walking around the back of the center one sees common structural elements of a theater. I believe the site is now a Chinese Restaurant.
It probably would have been re-purposed for retail like the original Loews Bay Terrace in Queens.
I wonder what was to become of the theater already in that shopping center, i.e., AIT’s Mayfair which apparently lasted until 1984.

Loews Theatres confirmed that it has reached an agreement in principle with the Arlona Company, operators of the Mayfair Shopping Center located on Jericho Turnpike approximately one half mile east of Sunken Meadow Parkway in Commack, Long Island, for the construction of a six-auditorium theatre within the center.
The new theatre will be adjacent to the Gimbels department store and will have a combined seating capacity of approximately 3,000. Extensive additional parking is being added to the already huge parking area.

Lowes not Loews. Really shaping up but probably won’t be open until after the first of the year.
So they are building a bigger and better theater in it’s place?
The new Lowes on the site is pretty far along already.
I find it really interesting when a 15 screen multiplex is bulldozed, most newer multiplexes aren’t much more than 15 screens. What would make it more interesting is if they bulldozed it to build a single screen D-I.

In re: the summary on the main page, it was demolished in 2013, not 2012. It was only demolished within the last 3 months.
