Empire Cinema

Located outside the town centre of Paray-le-Monial in Burgundy in the east of central France. This Empire Cinema replaced the original Empire Cinema in the town centre which closed on 30th September 2019(it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The new purpose built 3-screen cinema opened in October 2019. It is a modern building, equipped with 4K laser digital projection and a Dolby Atmos sound system. It is owned by a woman and is LGBTQ+ friendly.

The town of Paray-le-Monial was the filming location for the French horror film “Last Screening” (Derniere Seance) (2011) which features a manager of a cinema (the old Empire Cinema), who has worked and lived in the basement of the building for many years, goes berserk on killing spree when he hears his beloved cinema is to be demolished.
