Allen Theatre

The Allen Theatre launched on September 1, 1919, which took over much of the space of the first Royal Theatre that was destroyed in a January 1918 fire.

The Allen Theatre received a short one-month closure in July 1921, but reopened that August for only a few more months, until closing on December 3, 1921. However, the following week, surging crowds crushed and crowded into the theater but not for a movie. It was to celebrate the victory of G.N. Gordon in his campaign for federal parliament.

On December 6, 1921, Mike Pappas announced that he was taking over the reins of the city’s longest-running motion picture space, which was once again to be called the Royal Theatre, which already has its own Cinema Treasures page.
