The El Sueno Theatre opened April 1, 1917. The Lindsay Gazette reported in June it was purchased by G.T. Edwards who leased it to the Empress Theatre people, who renamed it the Empress Theatre.

In September 1922 J.W. Hoots sold his interest in the Glade Theatre and Empress Theatre to Webber Bros. of San Francisco.
