Located in Aylesbury, the County Town of Buckinghamshire. Aylesbury Town Hall was built as a Corn Exchange in 1865 in an Elizabethan/Jacobean style with red brick and stone facings, designed by architect David Brandon. It has a large central arch flanked with a with a smaller arch on each side. The main hall behind the archway wing was 90ft long and 45ft wide. In March 1901 it was taken over by the council and was renamed Town Hall.

Charles Senior, who was operating the Market Theatre(it has its own page on Cinema Treasures) began screening films on 25th May 1917 when “His Last Dollar” starring David Higgins was screened. It was closed in June 1925 due to Charles Senior having opened his Grand Pavilion Cinema in March 1925 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

The Town Hall was designated a Grade II* Listed building on 7th April 1952. It continued to be used for civic entertainments until 14th March 1962 when the hall was destroyed in an arson fire. Only the Town Hall Arches wing survives today. It contains a statue of singer David Bowie who appeared on several occasions at the Civic Centre which had been built in 1975 and demolished in 2011.
