The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported April 7, 1909, that the former Richter Theatre was taken over by the Columbia Amusement Company. The theatre went through a $5,000 remodeling, which included a new front, stage, gallery and opera chairs.

The Columbia Theatre had a formal opening on June 24, 1909, with a stage play and the Press Democrat reported all 750 seats were taken with 100 persons turned away.

By August 1, motion pictures were being advertised at the Columbia Theatre, as well as Frank Weston’s other two theatres, the Nickelodeon and Theaterette.

On May 20, 1917, a Press Democrat advertisement announced a Buick dealership was moving into the old Columbia Theatre building.
