The Rex Theatre opened its doors on February 23, 1929, and was renamed the Kentucky Theatre in 1930.
It served as the only Whitesburg movie house throughout World War II and a little bit of aftermath until the launch of the Alene Theatre in early-1950, which forced the Kentucky Theatre to close that same year.
