The Playhouse Mini Cinema is a very short-lived movie house in Three Rivers, opening its doors as a first-run house on August 25, 1971 with Gene Hackman in “Doctors' Wives”.
Unfortunately the first-run policy didn’t last long as it was originally promised to as a competitor towards the longtime Riveria Theatre. Instead, the staff at the Playhouse Mini began adding low-budget and X-rated films in 1973. However, only a minimum of first-run titles were added such as “Walking Tall” and “Hitler: The Last Ten Days”, but otherwise it mostly showed low-budget R and X-rated films until its closure in May 1974.
