Mary’s Drive-In opened on October 15, 1950, according to a report in Boxoffice magazine a few days later. It was built by Anthony Bou, owner of the town’s indoor Mendota Theatre, and was named for daughter Maria Theresa Bou. It could hold 565 cars, and its snack bar building included 185 seats.
In March 1953, Boxoffice wrote that Bou had dissolved his partnership with Mary’s co-owner J. A. Arnoff. The drive-in was still included in the 1960 Motion Picture Almanac, owner Tony Bou, capacity 350 cars.
A 1955 aerial photo showed a drive-in at the southern edge of Mendota. It was intact in 1957 and still open in July 1963 when it was being offered ‘For Sale’. By 1971, all but the projection building had been demolished.
The drive-in site is covered by residential development today. The house closest to the site of Mary’s screen tower is at 1891 9th Street.

Anthony Bou offered this drive-in and his indoor Mendota Theatre for sale in 1963, citing poor health as his reason for selling. Both were still in operation at that time.
