Located in Algonquin, 40-miles northwest of Chicago. The Algonquin Theatre was a silent-era house that lasted for several years. Unfortunately, its opening and closing dates remain unknown. It was once operated by the Erst Brothers who operated the theater in April 1917.

There is an another silent era movie house in Algonquin also operated by the Erst Brothers called the Grand Theatre. Unfortunately I don’t have any information about it. I only found information directly from a May 1917 article, so it’s unconfirmed that the name came from here or nearby.

Algonquin also had another house called the Star Theatre, though not to be confused with neighboring Crystal Lake’s Star Theatre. However, I don’t know if there is any connection to the Grand Theatre or the Algonquin Theatre or if it’s a separate house. The only info that I can find about the Star Theatre in Algonquin is an April 1918 showtime.

As of 1926, Algonquin had two movie houses, the Grand Theatre and the Star Theatre. Both theaters were gone by the early talkie era.
