Orpheum Theatre

This theater appears on the December, 1910 Sanborn, in what appears to be a remodel of an old two story brick commercial building that date to sometime before 1885. The 1906 map shows a printing operation here.

This was a wide building, and fairly deep, so it was an excellent choice for conversion to a theater. A stage was added at the rear, and vaudeville was offered as well. This operation was not a success for whatever reason, and although it was listed in the 1914-15 American Motion Picture Directory, the 1918 map shows the building used as retail.

This building was torn down around 1950, possibly to create access for a drive-through bank. Part of the lot was then used for a much smaller commercial building. This has likewise been demolished, and the site is currently occupied by an ugly 1980’s office building.
