The Hidalgo Theatre was a nickelodeon-era venue offering Spanish language silent films beginning in 1909. Its success was so great that a balcony and inclined floors were added in 1911. Mexican Revolution films proved to be very popular.

The theatre moved to English language films and, in 1914, the venue added a Peerless Arcadian Orchestrion to better present music for the silent films. Improved fire exits and fireproof projection booth were added in 1918. The cramped theatre operated into 1922 and it was replaced by a retail store offering phonographs and radios.
