The Dade Theater opened its doors on June 1, 1948 with Esther Williams in “This Time For Keeps” along with the Tex Avery cartoon “Henpecked Hoboes”. It was first owned by Dr. Charles J. Costner of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Costner was originally a North Carolina resident and was the one who helped constructing the 35x115ft theater building during the Dade Theater’s construction.

The Dade Theater went through several management changes throughout much of the early-1950’s but didn’t hold on too much longer. The Dade Theatre closed in 1954 and was converted into several different shops, including a flower shop and a welding shop.
