UGC Cine Cite Bercy

Opened in 1998 this multiplex is the first 18 screen cinema ever built in Paris. Designed by the architectural firm Valode & Pistre Architects of Paris who also redesigned the Bercy Village in which the cinema is located. Former 19th Century wine warehouses transformed into shops and bars of Bercy Village. Located next to the last subway line built in Paris, the UGC Bercy is a huge monument apart looking like a castle.

All the theatres are stadium seating the two biggest seating 450 patrons.

The ways to get from the bars to the theatres are quite sophisticated and even complicated. The design is sober (black colours and concrete walls). It is a different atmosphere than the MK2 Grande Bibliotheque multiplex recently built on the other side of the river Seine, so the movie goers are different.

With a capacity of 4,390 the number of tickets sold every week is impressive and every box office hit runs there.

The UGC Bercy is the movie theatre of the 21st century.

Only made one trip out here even though it was a quick run from my studio at the Gare de Lyon…a great multiplex environment with a good choice of restaurants around it…just a fun place to see movies even if I did most of my moviegoing at the Opera, the Champs or Les Halles
