The Nagano Sengoku Theater opened its doors on December 16, 1950 with Maureen O'Hara in “Bagdad” along with a live performance by the Nichigeki Dancing Team before the show. It was the first out of 80 movie theaters in the Nagano Prefecture to be constructed with reinforced concrete building at the time.
It was originally a single-screener running first-run American films for more than three decades. However in 1988, a second theater named the Sengoku Small Theater (later became Screen 3) opened on the second floor, followed by a mini theater named the Cinema Point on the fifth floor which opened in 1998.
In 1999, the second floor was separated and a third screen was added there, and in 2020, the Cinema Point on the fifth floor closed. In August 2006, the theater began screening Toei films following the closure of the Nagano Toei.
Screen 1 features 200 seats that plays mostly American and foreign films as well as highly acclaimed Japanese films. Screen 2 screens Japanese and foreign films with 100 seats, and Screen 3 housed 40 seats screening films that are suitable for mini-theaters.
