J.F. Carnahan & M.C. Hughes opened the Lee Theatre on March 31, 1942 with Bud Abbott & Lou Costello in “Buck Privates”. With the Lee Theatre opening they would close the Lyric Theatre.
Charles Bowles took on the venue and added the Ritz Theatre on May 1, 1947. On April 14, 1948, Bill Monroe played live on the Lee Theatre stage as part of WSM radio’s Grand Ole Opry program. The Lee Theatre would eventually close down.
