The Rolling Hills Shopping Center was announced with plans in 1960. It would open theatre-less in 1965. That changed when Alpha View Corporation opened its fourth location here in 1975. The original Alpha 1 Theatre launched in 1970 in downtown. The Alpha 2 opened in 1971 in the Indian Trail Shopping Center at the same time as the Alpha 3 opened at Holiday Manor Center.
Alpha 4 Cinemas 4-5-6-7 appears to be the company’s final effort in theatre-building. it launched on November 21, 1975 with “Earthquake!” “Winterhawk,” “Hard Times” and “The Other Side of the Mountain”. The excitement seem to be at the DuPont Square Village 8 which opened at about the same time. The theater was also beaten to market by two other quads in the Raceland 4 and Westland 4 which both opened in July of 1975.
Operator Bruce Shinbach closed the Alpha 4 on March 19, 1980 failing to turn a profit. Because of bookings that had to play, the Alpha 3 Twin stopped showing art films to run many films booked for the Alpha. However, it didn’t work as the Alpha 3 Twin closed just two years later on July 27, 1982.
