The Holman Theatre was a long-running, sound era movie theater designed for African American audiences. The Greater Third Ward cinema was part of Leon Abraham Lewis’ local circuit of four such theaters in Houston. Lewis Theatres were the Park, Lyons, DeLuxe and Holman. The Holman Theatre ran from 1942 to 1949. It was closed in 1950 & 1951, but then reopened and continued until 1964. The building has since been demolished.
