As advertised in the Beaumont Gazette, the Idle Hour Theatre opened May 1, 1915, with the French film “Fantomas: The False Magistrate” and a serial “The Master Key”.

The Idle Hour Theatre was a conversion of the former Max’s Department store, owned by R.E. Williams. The Gazette reported: “The walls have been tinted and the floor altered to a slight slant towards the screen. J.O Grant, the proprietor, has installed a new rectifier for the projecting apparatus which will eliminate the jumping effect of the pictures and make them more clear”.

Beaumont is located about 30 miles from Palm Springs.
