There’s not a lot of information about this drive-in. Located at the south part of Elizabeth City, with an entrance on Weeksville Road, the city’s first drive-in theater opened around 1953 and was located right next to an oval-shaped track that was used for decades.

It was still open in the mid-1970’s, but was closed by the early-1980’s. The track next door was still in clear shape at the time. Both the drive-in and the track were gutted by 1993, and was replaced by buildings being used at Elizabeth City State University.

The Thorps Administration building was built on site of the former drive-in, while the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center was building on site of the adjacent track.

That is a really good guess. But I’m sure Kilgore or Kenmore can figure this out.

I’ve come up with the name Albemarle Drive-In. It will need to be verified.

The name makes some sense since Albemarle Sound is just to the south.

Yeah, it was also not to be confused with the other Albemarle Drive-In in Albemarle around 270 miles away.
