The Parkway Cinemas opened its doors on August 15, 1973 with “Last Tango In Paris” in Screen 1 and “40 Carats” in Screen 2. Family matinees of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” in Screen 1 and “Run Wild Run Free” in Screen 2 were presented during the first weekend of operation a few days later. Operated by B&L Theatres, it first operated with 700 seats (with 400 seats in Screen 1 and 300 seats in Screen 2) but was downgraded to 600 seats later in its history (with 300 seats in each screen).
Last operated by Empire Theatres, the Parkway Cinemas closed on February 26, 1995 with “Heavyweight” in Screen 1 and both “The Jungle Book” and “Billy Madison” in Screen 2. Both attractions (except “The Jungle Book”) would later play at the nearby Park 400 Cinemas afterward which closed with the same attractions six days later. The closures of both the Parkway Cinemas and the Park 400 Cinemas were all due to the opening of the nearby 7-screener on McAllister Drive.
