The Chesley Twin Cinemas was a twin-screen movie theater located near the St. John Throughway, opening on February 1, 1980 with “Scavenger Hunt” in Screen 1 (302-seats) and “The Jerk” in Screen 2 (329-seats). It was operated by Odeon Theatres (Canada) Ltd. who were controlled by the Rank Organisation, based in London, UK. It was renamed the Place 400 Cinemas in January 1988.

Empire Theatres last operated the Place 400 Cinemas, and they closed the Place 400 Cinemas on February 26, 1995 with “Heavyweights” and “Billy Madison” in Screen 1 and “The Hunted” in Screen 2.

The Empire chain opened their 7-screen theater on McAllister Drive the following day. The Place 400 Cinemas building has been vacant and ‘For Rent’ since at least 2009.

It should be noted it was the first cinema to be built by Canadian Odeon Theatres.

Slight correction: This cinema closed it’s doors on Sun., Feb. 26, 1995, along with the Parkway Mall Cinemas.
