The Mugs & Movies opened its doors on August 21, 1980 with Clint Eastwood in “Bronco Billy” in Screen 1 and Bo Derek in “10” in Screen 2. Both theaters measure 60x90ft and featured a restaurant with a $10,000 television projector that screens live television through a 12ft video image screen.
It was originally an independent-owned theater, but Floyd Theaters took the ownership over in the late-1980’s or early-1990’s, and was followed by Carmike in 1995.
The Mugs & Movies closed down for a couple of weeks in July 1997. It reopened afterward, but unfortunately after the August 26, 1997 showings of “Con Air” and “Batman & Robin”, the Mugs & Movies closed down again for the final time. Carmike management explained saying that they don’t know why the Mugs & Movies closed down, as it had really strong business and a good attendance. It officially became a victim of the multiplex growth.
