The Cinema Arti was built in 1934 with an adjacent building to be used by as headquarters for a fascist youth organisation named Opera Nazionale Balilla(ONB). The brick and concrete building was designed by architect Mario Cereghini in a Streamline Moderne style.

After the end of World War II it was taken over by the city and converted into the Cinema Arti, screening family friendly films. It was closed in the early-2000’s and was converted into the Doria Gymnasium. This has since closed and in December 2018 the vacant building was sold to a London UK property company who sold it to the Soho House hotel company in June 2024 to be converted into a hotel.

Since 2005 it has been designated as a Listed building.
