The Jerry Lewis theatre circuit announced a new New Jersey location in the Glen Oaks Shopping Center / Glen Oaks Mini-Mall in 1971. The Jerry Lewis Cinema launched on January 26, 1972 with “Airport.” Mayor Ed Sayers of Gloucester Township. Not too long after, Jerry Lewis Cinema and its parent company, Network Cinema Corp. began a quick descent into oblivion leaving puzzled franchisees dealing with failing properties, eight of which were in New Jersey.
Multiple lawsuits were the end of Jerry Lewis Cinemas in 1973. But the Glen Oaks Jerry Lewis Cinema appears to have thrown in the towel on December 3, 1972 with “Asylum”. Under new operators, the venue would reboot as the Glen Oaks Cinema in December of 1973. It closed nearly three years later on December 19, 1976 with “Silent Movie”. The Glen Oaks Mini-Mall was renamed the Chews Landing Mall in early-1977.
Under new operators, the venue relaunched on April 13, 1977 as Chews Landing Cinema with “Never a Dull Moment” and “The Three Caballeros”. Chews Landing Cinema closed on October 19, 1980 with “Xanadu”. The cinema does not appear to have reopened. The plaza became the Chews Landing Marketplace Mall, then the Marketplace Concept Mall, then The Marketplace Mall, and finally The Marketplace.
