New Smyrna Theatre

The Smyrna Theatre opened on July 7, 1965 following the closure on July 6, 1965 of the Victoria Theatre/Smyrna Theatre just up the street on Canal Street(It has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The theatre remained in operation up until closing as the New Smyrna Theatre in mid-to-late January 1988. The building has been converted to office and retail space, but the exterior retains some of its original theatre design.

There are two theaters that are named the Smyrna Theatre. This one replaced an older one, and opened on July 7, 1965 with “The Yellow Rolls-Royce” featuring a capacity of 500 seats and was operated by Thomas E. (Ted) Bell. The older location closed the previous day.

It was lastly known as the “New Smyrna Theatre” before closing in mid-to-late January 1988.
