Weis Opera House

This opera house was constructed sometime between 1900 and 1911, likely after 1905, as it does not appear in that year’s Cahn guide.

The building was stone with a brick facade, and the opera house was located in the very tall upper story. It was showing movies by 1914, when it was listed simply as ‘Opera House’. The theater was not listed in 1926.

By the late 1960’s, the theater had an ugly sheet metal facade and was used as the fire station. All of the buildings on this block have since been demolished, and the lower floor is the only remaining structure. It’s been turned into a storage shed, which seems to be used by the city.
