Opened in 1912, the 500-seat Savoy Picture Palace was a modest cinema designed by local architect, John Knight. It was situated on the corner of Renshaw Street & Great Jackson Street, West Gorton, and took its name from the adjacent Savoy Street that ran parallel to Renshaw Street.
The proprietors were Savoy (Manchester) Picture Palace Company Limited with Mr. C. F. Moffat as managing director and Mr. J. A. Westbrook as Company Secretary. The cinema was managed by Mr Fred Kay. When sound films came along in the late-1920’s it was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. In 1936 & 1937 it was operated by the J.F. Emery circuit.
It closed around 1948. The streets around the Savoy Picture Palace were swept away as a part of the slum clearances that swept Manchester in the 1960’s and 1970’s The site is now the car park for Club 3000 Bingo
